For years our Ag. extension offices advised us not to use Mushroom compost, so I have never used it. Then a month or so back at a region 14 meeting one of the guest speakers was an Ag. extension agent and he said that now that are saying Mushroom compost is great stuff to use. They previously stated that Mushroom compost was high in salt content and very low in nutrients. Now they seem to be walking that statement back. My question is what changed? Did they actually perform tests on Mushroom compost to determine it was high in salt content and low in nutrients, did they change the test and discover it was actually great for the garden, did someone pay a fee to get the past advice change? Has the way Mushroom compost is made changed, what happened?
I did ask the Ag. agent and he said that he did not know.
