I am now starting the 18th Daylily of the Day poll .... If you want to continue to review cultivars, please add some daylily names in a post on this thread!

The last poll we had was back in August 2021. I am asking members to please pick cultivars that they OWN. The more members that own a cultivar, the better (to have numerous evaluations). Please make sure that you post the correct name and spelling of the cultivars you list. You can list up to 20 cultivars that you actually own and are willing to post an evaluation for when the cultivar is featured as the Daylily of the Day. (A new cultivar will be posted every other day.)

List your 20 (or less) cultivars with just the full cultivar name only! (See MY example below.)
Example List:

Beautiful Edgings
Wind Wishes
Awesome Blossom

And don't forget that you can post an evaluation at any time to any of the Daylily of the Day threads. An acorn will be awarded for each evaluation. You can post "annual" evaluations of any cultivars at least a year after your previous evaluation of that cultivar. (And earn another acorn tip!) Previously featured Daylilies of the Day cultivar threads can be found in this forum. They are listed in alphabetical order: https://garden.org/barn/potd/a...

Please check the above link, to make sure that any cultivars you list have not already been a featured daylily of the day cultivar, before adding to your list. Thanks!

This poll will end on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

Thanks for helping choose more cultivars for evaluations!!! We appreciate your help and enthusiasm! Thank You!

REMEMBER - YOU can earn an acorn for each evaluation of both current and past cultivars if they are new evaluations or your evaluation is a year apart from your last evaluation of any cultivars. (NOTE: If, for some reason, you don't receive an acorn for an evaluation, please tree-mail me so that I can make sure that you do get an acorn.)

If there is little interest in keeping the Daylily of the Day feature going with more cultivars, then I will request that Dave discontinue it going forward.

For all the new members: I discovered the old Daylily of the Day threads after I had been here a while. I think another member pointed them out. I was able to post reviews for a bunch of cultivars that had been featured some time ago. For several, I was the only reviewer. I really like the Daylily of the Day feature and find it very useful when I'm considering purchases.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of past daylilies of the day that never received any reviews, received only sparse reviews, or have only dated reviews. It is too bad that those cultivars cannot be freshly reviewed in a new post.

There is a sticky on the welcome page to the daylily forum showing the archived daylilies of the day location, but I think it get over looked. I just don't know how to make people more aware of it. Also under the main photo shown in the data base of each daylily that has been plant of the day, there is a highlighted link to direct people to the plant to make comments. I need to go back and make more updated reviews on many of them. Seems I remember you get an acorn for a new yearly comment.

I always look at these before I get a new daylily to see how it performs, especially in a climate similar to mine. I try to avoid evergreen daylilies here, but I do have some evergreens among the best in my garden. Such a great source if it were more people responded. I have added an updated response after a daylily settles in.

Thanks to all the folks who have posted their lists so far. You do NOT need to post the number of people who have it. (It's easier for me if you don't.) Just the cultivar name is all I need with the correct spelling.

You can post an update of any cultivars you have with an annual evaluation and indeed receive another acorn. If any Daylily of Day cultivar threads were started by Jon and you did not get an acorn, please tree-mail me, so that I can tip you an acorn. I am not notified of new evaluations unless it's a daylily of the day cultivar thread that "I" started. So just send me a message with the link to your evaluation, so that I can check it out and tip you! Thumbs up

I appreciate all the wonderful evaluations that folks are writing! I also check them out before considering acquiring any new cultivars. So your evaluations are read and are considered helpful to many others. And I hope that you also find them helpful as well.

And we all love to see photographs! So take photos and upload to the Daylily of the Day threads as well as the Plant Database. Your efforts are appreciated! Thank You!

Keep those lists coming! Smiling

As you can see, I could barely get through my daylilies beginning with the letter 'C' ... Loads of great daylilies out there.

There are so many wonderful daylilies out there, I'm a 'fan' of the Daylily of the Day threads - gives us a great chance to see just a few of the opportunities we are missing in our own gardens.

Although, I think the point is to put forward Daylilies YOU have in YOUR garden, so you can tell us about their performance. I have a bunch of newer ones but numbers wise, only a few people had them so it didn't seem worth listing them yet.

Zoia - If you have some cultivars, list them regardless of whether or not a lot of others have them. Even the ones that many people have, often get just a handful of reviews. So I suggest anyone who has a cultivar that has not been featured as the Daylily of the Day previously, to put them on their list if they have them in their own garden. And honestly, the lists can be longer than 20 cultivars. The more daylily cultivars listed, the better!

I really think it is great that there is not a limit placed on the listings based on how many members show to have the plant, i think a lot of members who own a plant do not actually list themselves here as owners of a plant. But the important thing is that the plants will be listed here for years, and can continue to get comments. So maybe only one or two people may now own a plant but a great review might encourage people to obtain the plant, and some really bad reviews on poor plant performance might help people avoid a plant.

Exactly: when anyone is kind enough to share what does well in their gardens, and gives info on various daylilies' performance, it gives the rest of us a better perspective on what we may want for our own gardens. I, for one, would not want to add a daylily that does poorly elsewhere, particularly a garden in somewhat similar climate ... zone 4, for example. If it won't grow there, it is quite unlikely to do well in zone 3.

But when we see what performs well for others... particularly, ones I have 'missed' discovering... it helps me narrow my 'want' list effectively.

As for not listing a daylily because not very many other gardeners have listed it themselves... how better to encourage someone else to take a second (or maybe their first) look?

Is there a way to print out a list of featured plants in the Daylilies of the Day archive? I admit to not having the patience to scroll through the 82 page list one page at a time to see what has already been done.

I really enjoy this feature of the site, though, and try to contribute if I have something useful to say.

If a daylily has already been featured as Daylily of the Day, there will be a link underneath its picture in its database entry:

Daylily (Hemerocallis 'South Seas')

So you could look up in the database the ones you're thinking of suggesting to see if they have been Daylily of the Day or not already. That is what I did.

There is also a forum called Past Plants of the Day with all the daylilies that have been featured. I need to go thru it again. I know there are a few I posted about before the plants had settled in well I can offer more info now.
