It's bad enough that supply chain issues are making me jump through hoops to buy available cat food which is acceptable to, "her highness."

Now I find that the seed starting mix I have come to prefer and rely on (Promix Bx) is out of stock in the warehouse for all the nearby Ace Hardware stores. I use about a bale and a half each winter and should be starting my seeds soon.

Now I have to travel about 50-60 minutes to one of the only two Ace Hardware stores who still have some in stock.

I am so frustrated and probably don't understand the "big picture" at all; but feel that if I were physically capable, I would love to take any kind of a job to get a small paycheck and help a small business stay open ... waitress?, whatever.

End of rant

Cat food i can certainly relate to, frustrating. I have one cat that is prone to bladder infections. When he gets an infection, he gets seizures, very bad at some points. He eats canned food for urinary issues which helps a lot. Not many places here to get it, and I gather lots of cats need it. Wish they had different flavors, His Majesty likes variety

Our dog is on a sensitive stomach food and a few weeks ago our local pet store was out and we had to drive to another one - fortunately not far. Our local vet clinic posted a notice that they were experiencing delays with pet food and prescription items. Since then we now try and keep one bag of dog food ahead, i.e. when one is getting towards the bottom and before we start the next one we get another one so there is always one in reserve in case of supply issues.

Doesn't help Pat with the ProMix though, I looked it up and it seems to be out almost everywhere, including Amazon. I find it's often difficult to get seed starting supplies around here at this time of year.

I recall a neighbor who is the hard goods buyer (fertilizers, etc.) for a local nursery who said a year ago people were stocking up on supplies in February that they would normally buy later in the spring, and his suppliers were out of a lot of things until past the time people would likely buy them, He wasn't sure if there were more people interested in gardening or they were just the usual customers buying in advance who wouldn't be back later. All the advance stocking up is difficult for stores to manage, especially since a lot of the supply chain had gone to "just in time" purchasing.

Folks who are having trouble getting pet food might want to try Chewy.com. I have four cats, and I use their autoship service and so never run out. They don't have everything, but they have a wide selection of pet food and other supplies.Their customer service is also exemplary.

I can identify with the cat food issue. I had a cat that had severe food allergies (emergency room type severe). We ended up with only 3 varieties of food she could eat. For the first time we ran into a prolonged outage of this food in 2021 and I was beside myself with worry. Chewy's and Amazon were even out. Finally found some back stock locally and in about a month's time the varieties started showing back up occasionally on the shelves at the regular stores (it was a Fancy Feast product), so crisis averted for a time. She passed away at the age of 18 this July and so the issue is moot for me now, but a friend of mine in California has a similar problem (less deadly fortunately) with her cat, and reports to me that the shelves in her local grocery stores are often out of various varieties of cat food now. I don't know who is in charge (or not in charge as the case may prove to be), but these are life and death issues not just a Christmas present shortage. This problem of supply needs to be fixed................Maryl

Nan,

I do use Chewy and their autoship but it's just out of stock constantly for months now. I switched from one flavor of Royal Canin to another they recommended and she liked it. That also became out of stock so they said a third one had the same flavor and she does eat that, but it's also now not in stock. When I run out of this flavor, I guess she'll have to just eat dry food.

Why do we go mental and cater to these picky creatures?

Wow, I guess I've just been lucky then. My cats eat Blue Buffalo brand, and we haven't had any problem getting it (knock on wood).
