FYI, the "green base" is called a calyx. The plural term is calyces.

Yes, its in the ground and comes back every year bigger and bigger.
my blooms never fully open, they always get half-way and stop opening. sometimes i tear at the little green base just so that the petals have more room to "breathe" lolol
