I took a cutting of a plant last fall that was planted in a container located on Market Street near where I work. It rooted nicely in water and is now a very nice plant. I love it!
Wowzer! Very pretty. So you just took a piece from a public area? I have so wanted to do that but never had the nerve! I have been growing from seed but I need to take cutting in the fall so I don't have to keep doing the seeds, it's not working so well.
The plants had a death sentence. The containers are all cleaned off of plants to prepare for winter by the city's horticulture contractor who maintains those containers. I felt like I saved the plant.
I did that at Lake Chelan when we were there. It was mid September and all the coleus just looked great. I new a freeze would come and wipe them out buy October so took the liberty of shortening a few. That was fall 2011, was not over there in time fall 2012. They had some very nice hanging coleus.
Of Course! Your good deed then! I will remember that next time I see something I would like a piece of. I saw some FABULOUS coleus when I was at Hidden Lake Garden in Mi. and I so wanted to just snap off a little piece but I was afraid there were hidden cameras. I should have at least taken pictures for reference!
The big concrete planters on the city street have been installed with plants for this year, and they have used Religious Radish again. I was so pleased to see them again.
Here I'd another photo of my office plant. I just love the leaf color!
I can assure you that no one goes along each container on the street to pinch coleus flowers. If it croaks, I will know better for the future and can always grab another cutting from a container at the end of the summer.
