I've just bought this on Ebay. ![]() I want to try my hand at making a Semp ball when I have enough chicks (so probably not for a while yet). Although I think I'm going to try and find a tall vase like container or plinth to place it on rather than hang it. Does anyone have any good tips for planting shapes? I made some topiary frames last summer for hedging plants - they still have a way to grow to fill the frames, but I see even more semp ones in the future! Kate UK |
Bev and Chris have done these. Some one else has, but I can't remember who. Must be old age catching up to me. ![]() That is one lovely sphere. I see it is in two halves. Take it apart and line it with core or moss, fill with potting soil and place the halves together again. Then plant. |

Kate are you asking do people have other ideas for "frames"?? Lynn has a gorgeous swan frame, and I've seen others on here too, also can't remember! ![]() |
That will be fun to plant Kate and should be gorgeous! I would prepare it the way Lynn suggested. Cubits Store: The Sempervivum Patch - plants, containers, accessories! Also stop by Timber Treasures and Garden Buddies on Cubits |

Kate, here is an article I wrote on making succulent wreaths, but I use the same method for planting any topiaries. http://garden.org/ideas/view/g... Cubits Store: The Sempervivum Patch - plants, containers, accessories! Also stop by Timber Treasures and Garden Buddies on Cubits |

Kate, you might like this tutorial on my site (hope it doesn't look too much like self promo ![]() These are super easy to make, and very effective. You'll see on the tutorial that I recommend using a large planter or something really solid as a base; these suckers are heavy! |
Great tutorial Jacki. ![]() |
