I have managed to stay away from the Lily Auction until now...holy cow have I ever done it now. I don't like being out bid and that gets a little expensive! I am however buying from one of the members here, so what the heck...it has to be going to a good person right??? LOL |

It is a good time to be buying on the LA. Only problem is exercising self control when there are great bargains to be had! We've got bids on a few that we don't need or already have, really like, and the price is too good to pass up. I found it about 6 months ago........I have way to many seeds and still bidding. If you would have a mind at peace, a heart that cannot harden, go find a door that opens wide upon a lovely garden. https://www.facebook.com/pages... |

Well Doris. I almost bid against you today, I dont know what made me stop and go see who was bidding, but glad I did ![]() Lori, dont worry about being outbid, there is always something around the corner you would like, and always another of what your bidding on. Trust me on that ![]() |

My problem is I have no self control! Anything I do I do full force...not always a good thing. Great advice Gardenglory!, I will try and establish some guidelines for myself. My biggest thing is with shipping starting at 10.00 I want to win more than one item from the seller, cuts down on the shipping but brings the price of the fans up so I am really not gaining much there!! It is fun though, can't wait to get my new fans in the ground...so overall a happy experience...now I just need to stay away from there for a bit! |

Pam, it is OK to bid against us. I don't know whether to say 'Thank you' or not. We did win two today. The others we were bid against and we either did not raise our bids or our raised bids were not high enough. I am not going to spend much for anything right now. I don't need to be buying any more when I still don't have spots for everything coming starting this week and throughout April. The weather does not coordinate with the days that I can be here to dig and move daylilies. At least our ground is not covered with inches or a foot of snow like some of our neighbors to the north, midwest, and northwest. I was known to overbid when I first started. Once I found the closed auction link, it was so embarassing to see everyone else had paid about the same for a plant and i was way above them. |

Started Bids High Bid High Bidder closed: HEAVENLY UNITED WE STAND(Gossard) 51 inches 2/13 1 $33.00 closed: HEAVENLY UNITED WE STAND(Gossard) 51 inches 2/7 1 $33.00 closed: HEAVENLY UNITED WE STAND 3F wow BEST COLOR 3/13 3 $39.39 closed: HEAVENLY UNITED WE STAND (Gossard10) Triple Fan 3/8 4 $49.00 closed: HEAVENLY UNITED WE STAND (Gossard 07) DF choice 2/8 11 $84.01 This is the plant I was going to bid on Doris, I should have now that I see someone else did anyway. I found another for 40$, but the auction doesnt end for 13 days, so we shall see. This is a perfect example of what a bidding war will get you. I deleted the winners names, I didnt think it fair to post those, but you can see, the person who won two fans, paid 84$ for a DF, there were 11 bids. Others won TF at half the price. Im sure the seller was happy tho! |

Pam, we have HEAVENLY UNITED WE STAND and love it! That is why David was bidding on it. It is a tall, bright daylily at the back of the bed. Garden visitors notice it, comment on it, and want it; but, we don't want to give up any. It has lots of buds, so therefore lots of blooms. I hope that you get it one day soon for a great price. We got ours 3-4 years ago for $25 at a Region 5 daylily meeting's bargain table. What a bargain! "Anything worth doing is worth overdoing"~~~David Bishop http://daylilyfans.com/bishop/ |

Aww Lori you are a newbie to the LA have fun and enjoy yourself your garden will love you! When I see something there that I really want I will bid on it even is someone else is bidding on the daylily after all it is a auction. There are good buys to be had and the sellers have earned the bids they get from me. There are many excellent sellers that I have bought from in the over ten years I have been buying from the LA. Be sure to show us some photos of your garden. If you want to be happy for a lifetime plant a garden! Faith is the postage stamp on our prayers! Betty MN Zone4 AHS member |

I have learned to pay attention to the number of fans offered, and those two triples looked pretty good to me! Sometimes when I see a daylily I really want on the LA and a SF is offered starting at more than $50, but I'm sure the bidding will go up from there and I know the hybridizer will give me a beautiful big DF for $100 and include another great bonus plant, it only makes sense for me to purchase it from the hybridizer rather than through the LA. Rita, I know youve slowed down, but I was looking on Mary Janes feedback, to see when I bought I certain plant. There for a while, you were sure paying her mortgage. ;-) |

I settled for Sky King-- H:55 B:9 Branching : 5 Bud Count : 28 Four inches taller than HUWS. Same bloom size. Two less branch and eight less buds. SK is also a budbuilder according to Mr. Gossard. Also got One Above You coming with SK. Already have Sears Tower, The Cow Jumped Over The Moon and jolly Red Giant. All in all I must say I did ok on the LA this winter. robinseeds.com "Life as short as it is, is amazing isn't it ?" Michael Burton "Be your best you". |
