This year I really learned something. I invested in 15 gallon pots. After I used some I had left overs and was wondering what to do with them. So I basically started putting multiple smaller plants in the pots. It creates a great color display in the pot. It also elevates the eye level of the smaller plants. Right now I have three cathedral salvia in one pot, 8 vista salvias in two pots, four different color summer jewel plants in one pot, and lastly I put three types of basil in one pot. These are all in my 15 gallon pots. Uses alot of dirt unless you use peanuts, or something else, but I like the look of them.

Some people suggest using cut up swimming pool noodles to fill bottom of large pots. I have not tried it yet. Empty bottles or jars with lids on work too.
