I've been growing this bamboo in my yard for 3 years. Its still a very young plant but I was wondering if anyone could ID it? At first I thought it was Golden or Fishpole bamboo, but last week I noticed the canes were turning a dark brown color.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The white rings suggest Phyllostachys nuda. This is perhaps the hardiest of the Phyllostachys genus. It has dark green culms with a bright white ring at the node. The leaves are also darker than most other bamboos. In the spring the new culms are often near-black in color for a few weeks as the new foliage appears, aging to green. Shoots usually begin to appear during the later half of April here in Portland. http://www.bamboogarden.com/Ph... http://www.google.co.uk/search... There's also Phyllostachys nuda f. localis .. http://www.google.co.uk/search... I'm not sure though! |

Wow thanks Janet! There are several huge groves of it at my old neighborhood. |
