Cold out there but I just came in from pulling some of my tulips. I know one of my neighbors from the back of the property could see me and was probably thinking I am completely nuts. But this is that backyard daylily bed. I had put in four types of Gregeii tulips. I had it all planned, plant once and enjoy forever. But I see Sundance and Goldwest, two of the four. Then the other two are supposed to be Large Copper and March Of Time. They are not. Both are short like Kaufmanniana. I am absolutely sure one of them is Showwiner of which I have 200 already between the front and daylily slope. I didn't want any more in the batch up there. I don't know what the other is but it looks nothing like the one it is supposed to be.
So I just went out and very carefully (so as not to disturb the others) pulled up those ones I am sure are Showwwinner in that bed. Had to do it now while they are in flower so as to get the ones I wanted. I left the other strange ones and of course I left the correct ones.
I have already ordered more of the yellow Goldwest (love them) and a red greiggii called Red Riding Hood to add to that bed. Oh, and Oratio will go there also. So next year it will still be more colorful than ever.
Only thing is that now I will have to do the planting the hard way as I have to put out some sort of markers to show where I already have bulbs and work around them.

She has roses and daylilies and iris; grows peas and cucumbers and beans and such AND lots and lots of tomatoes.
Rita was generous enough to compile a summary on her tomato experiments last year and post it for us on the O/T Porch Swing thread again this Spring.

She sounds like a very healthy woman with all the gardening plus she gets plenty of sun.

I know, right?~ I would be just eating her dust if I tried to keep up, so I am just taking notes....

Debra is correct, I grow lots of flowers besides the bulbs the main ones of which are Daylilies, Roses, Tall Bearded Iris and Lilies. I have a lot of daylilies and daylily beds. I see no reason why my daylily areas should give me a stunning summer display and look barren in the spring so I am now working on adding tulips in my daylily beds and around them. Tulips are perfect for daylily beds as the tulips bloom before the daylily folliage is even totally grown out and afterwards die down and dissappear.
Besides my flowers I veggie garden mostly growing tomatoes. I love my home grown tomatoes!
The garden keeps me busy and active and gives me so much enjoyment.

Debra can tell you I take pictures of just about everthing I grow. Last year I posted not only my flowers but my tomatoes,. I mean the plants growing and then pictures of the tomatoes and cucumbers I picked. I was so pleased with them I just had to brag. Going to be doing the same this year.

OK here are some pictures of part of the backyard. Taken to feature the row of darwin tulips that are just coming into bloom they still do show that I have flower beds all over.
If you look at the above pictures that entire area of the backyard once was my veggie garden. I added daylilies to both ends and then I still had the veggie garden in the middle for years. But eventually I just had to have another iris bed and more daylilies. So it became a flower garden. I knew I would not be happy without a veggie garden but I just had to have those flowers. Slowly I begane making veggie garden beds in my side yard on the driveway side. I kept enlaerging them till I now have what I want.
Its all set up ready for me to buy and put in my tomato plants.
