I love that color of the rose, so delicate... it looks more like smaller peonies than a rose. Gorgeous banner!

I've never had a rambler bloom so profusely. Drooling

Cal- absolutely nothing! I think it is just a case of right plant, right place. I bought from Peter Beales roses about 3 years ago and it's just gone from strength to strength. What you can't see from the pictures ia that she is now all over the front of the cat cage, all across the top and through and right the was along the fence on the other side! I'm sure some people might consider her a complete thug!

3 yrs old??! =O
I thought she'd been there for 15 at least.
She's definitely a winner. I hadn't planned on adding any roses, but a robust rambler like Ethel is worth looking into.

We have several David Austin favorite, Gertrude Jekyll, has the most intoxicating fragrance. And the most wicked thorns!
Armed to the teeth! I have the scars to prove it.
Now I wear gauntlets when pruning her. Sticking tongue out

So far I haven't found a source for Ethel here in the USA,
but will call a few nurseries to see if she's available. Thumbs up
