It's been a long time since I've been here, but the Vegetable and Fruit forum was basically where I hung out. I've never been accused of being PC, so I'm posting this here. I know there's lots of good people here, many of you fellow Christians.

I'm asking for prayer for my wife, Gena. We found out July 10 that she had a mass on her left lung. She is the health conscious one, unlike me. She would walk 3-4 miles several times a week and exercise regularly. We are both ex-smokers...having quit some 16 years ago. Since finding the mass, through CT, biopsy, PET scan, etc., she has been diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer. The cancer is non-small-cell and is in her left lung in both lobes. The PET scan did not detect cancer elsewhere. We head out this morning to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital to meet with a surgeon. General prayer is much desired for her. Specific prayer would be that the surgeon believe he can remove the lung/cancer and that he deems Gena able to physically handle living with one lung. I believe she can handle having only one lung, she is a strong and feisty 4'10" tall lady. She's a devout Christian, *very* active in our church and in our local jail ministry...she has a love for anyone she meets but her heart especially is tender for children. Please pray for her comfort, peace, healing, and God's presence throughout the journey ahead of her and me. Thank you so much. Ed

Prayers for your wife (and you) as you both travel through these challenges. Many doctors we dealt with over the years also believe in the power of prayer. Do ask them as well. Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear of this. I will be praying for you, Ed. I hope and pray that no matter what happens, you will find comfort in God and His Word. At times, it seems that's the only way we can find comfort:
Trust in the Lord forever, for in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock. (Isaiah 26:4)

On a brighter note, I'm positive your wife's good, healthy habits will not make it worse. Good habits will never come back to haunt you!

I used to know someone that got a double lung transplant...She used to complain that she wanted a cigarette so bad that she could eat it...

I know the feeling...

Dear Gena and Ed,
We have an awesome, wonderful God, Who loves us dearly, and Who has promised to NEVER leave us or forsake us, and to actually work ALL things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. I pray that both of you will sense His presence more strongly than you ever have in your lives. I pray for His healing touch on Gena's body, and for Godly wisdom and direction for the doctors and the 2 of you. He is your refuge, your shelter, your fortress, your high tower.

Your post for prayer for your dear wife Gena and all of the loving responses are far more beautiful than the flower and plant photos posted in this newsletter - and those photos are gorgeous! I will pray for you and Gena as you travel this path and will say prayers of thanksgiving that you know Jesus holds you in His loving hands.
