Don't know if the OP can go look at this tree again, but I'm pretty certain that this is more likely a quite colorful Acer palmatum specimen - not a Liquidambar styraciflua.

I think the density of the foliage, as well as the apparent smooth barked multi-stemmed habit, point at a Japanese Maple rather than an American Sweetgum.
