Juli @daylily has had a nasty reaction to getting some sap from this plant into her eye, despite her best efforts to avoid that. A doctor has treated it and expects her eye will recover. He would like to know the ID for the medical records. Also Juli has questions about how to launder her clothes. She said this plant volunteers as a weed and is not prevented from germinating by Snapshot.
I used to know but now I've forgotten. I'm sure someone here will know! Thanks for any help.

Using my middle name Ann wasnโt working well. Back to being one Pat among many others. ๐
For a Doctor it would surely be enough to know it is Euphorbia.
They all contain a toxic white latex milky sap which cause problems.
Pics not clear enough.
Maybe Euphorbia peplus.
Just google Euphorbia sap/toxic and there is pages oabout it.

That's what I was thinking too. Apparently there are difficulties identifying weedy Euphorbia even in person according to this (admittedly 40 year old) article:
Dunn, P. H. "The distribution of leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula) and other weedy Euphorbia spp. in the United States." Weed Science 27.5 (1979): 509-516.
Yes I think that is the right one. Those pics Pat posted were of the plants I had pulled and they had wilted. I contacted her because of all the folks I know - I knew Pat would be able to help or know who could. Thanks Pat!
Can barely see โฆ still eyes so swollen. Both swollen shut again this morning, only open a slit now. Still very painful and extremely light sensitive.
Lights, screens,tv all very painful so will try to type but might be mistakes - sorry ..
Eye doc I see is an eye surgeon. My eyes are ratherโฆcomplicated. He has done many surgeries and treatments on me over the years - has given me sight when otherwise I would have very bad sight.
I think its his own curiosity about which plant exactly. He had researched euphorbia as I was on my way to office. I am fortunate I knew it was euphorbia and could trll them when I called. Also that he was there and I got treatment so fast. It was late in afternoon and I thought they might be gone.
A friend happened to be deer hunting by my pond and was able to rush me to the eye surgeons office.
He says it will be 2 weeks to know if there will be permanent damage to my right eye but it affected both. Even my sinuses feel like I rubbed them with ghost peppers.
Definitely a plant to treat with caution!!!
I knew this weed could cause skin irritation and treated it with respect and caution. Yet still got in my eyes.

Get well soon! This makes me think about getting rid of some of my bigger plants with latex. Why not replace them with something safer and just as interesting looking? Is their beauty or interest worthy of them possibly causing misery for a friend or family member?

I want to update in case anyone else has this happen. Everyone's eyes are different, etcโฆ this is just my experience.
Happened Nov 9. Saw eye surgeon yesterday, Nov 29. (Editโฆ saw for follow up to initial injury)
He said left eye healed fine. Right eye still showing irritation.
He thinks it will also heal but taking longer because it was more effected initially
Sinus burning and watering lasted a week before starting to let up. I did not seek medical treatment for this other than using Neti saline nasal rinse suggested by eye doc.
He did say that due to my rather extreme reaction, I should consider that I have latex allergy. Previously never had a problem using latex gloves for brief times.

Thank you for the information. Sounds like a miserable ordeal. I hope you are able to continue healing.
