I have recently come across a person on the daylily auction selling Benz daylilies for quite a bit of money. The one daylily Ring of Power is $500. I have tried to do research on this hybridizer, but the website is for sale for $7,500. Can anyone give me any information. Do these daylilies exist? Is this a scam? If this was a hybridizer, are they still in business? Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, John Benz is a pretty famous daylily hybridizer. You can get into the American Daylily Society's database and search on Benz-J and you will get a list of all his creations (346), and his Ring Of Power was registered in 2017. I believe he had a stroke and is now in managed care, but I am sure there are others in this forum who may be able to provide much more information.

John Benz registered 735 daylilies. (You can see the entire list, many with photos, by going to the Plant Database, clicking on the 'Visit our plant-specific databases: Daylilies, then under the 'Search and Browse Daylilies', click on the 'Search by characteristics (height, bloom color, etc)' and enter 'Benz' in the hybridizer field and click the Search button)
Not sure if Benz is still alive, someone else may know. And someone may also know why a given daylily would command that much, maybe wishful thinking?

Checking the LA sold history. A single fan of Ring Of Power sold recently by an "inactive seller" for under one hundred dollars. Always do your research and exercise patience unless you have a lot of Crypto to burn.

no Crypto just old fashioned lettuce. My son was telling me about that I told him I will invest in Crypto when money "Really" grows on trees.
