Expecting a low between 28 to 31 tonight. I have all of the hostas covered with old bedsheets and pillow cases and some light flannel blankets. Hope all will be well and won't get as cold as they're predicting. I would hate to see damage done to my hostas, but I'd also hate to see the flowers on the lilacs and other flowering plants freeze tonight. Just when things are looking good, the stupid cold air comes to ruin it all. Karen |

Well, I do not live in zone 6 but I think they need a cold spell. Hopefully they will be ok. ![]() Susan In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.....Margaret Atwood |

We were expecting a freeze last night, but since my hostas are still in the early stages of unfurling, I decided to let them fend for themselves. I worried that some would get frost nipped, but I just couldn't do the tent city thing in my yard. Fortunately, when I was awake at 4 a.m. (Insomnia. Ugh!) I noticed that the temp was still 34 and it hadn't gone down to 31 as predicted. This morning I noticed dew, but no frost, so it seems we dodged a bullet. The good news is, this week is going to warm up nicely and should stay warm right past our average last frost date. Dare I hope that there'll be no more frost to deal with this growing season? ![]() Check out Petiole Junction, my garden blog! (I'd love your comments.) |
