I have phragmipediums which are kept moist all year long. I've gotten pincushion moss but I think I want a moss that is more adhering to the top of the rocks or bark of the phrags. I also want to place moss on the top of the various paphiopedilums I have. They are kept a bit drier but not much. The area is not very "humid." The light is medium to low. What I have against the pin cushion moss is that it is too thick on some kind of a mud medium. I think I want a thinner moss that grows through spores, but the area is so dry that moss spores are not common. What do you think? Should I just get a moss sampler and see what doesn't die?

I'd like to know how to get a different assortment of REAL mosses for Bonsai, indoor Fairy gardens as well as for some houseplant soil topping.
All I can find is fake moss in craft stores. And how do you keep the mosses green and lush?
