My middle son is building me a propagation box for doing cuttings in. This is a picture of it in process. He needs to attach the lid and misters under the lid. My son's will move it outside to My little backyard. Then we will put 8 to 10 inches of a mixture of potting soil, peat moss, sand & perlite. We put drain holes in the bottom already. Then we will attach the garden hose and cuttings of course. The dimensions of the box are 48" x 24" x 32" tall.

That should give you something to play with!

Fastinating project - it will be fun to see how it works. Do you have a way to circulate the air? I would be concerned about mold and unwanted fungus.
What is your reasoning for filling the bottom with soil instead of just putting pots in? Are you planning to use it in winter? What sorts of things are you planning to start?

My climate is so dry here that all my attempts to root cuttings has been 100 % failure. I did have something similar made out of a large fishtank with a misting system a few years ago that was pretty sussful. I will be trying to root rose cuttings, other flowering shrubs and trees. If need be I can put a small fan attached to the under side of the lid.

Finally some success!
Today I checked on the cuttings I started about 6 weeks ago in my misting box.
So far I have rooted...
3 Iceberg rose cuttings,
2 darlow enigma rose cuttings,
1 double delight rose cutting
1 new dawn
1 Montezuma rose cutting
1 desert willow.
I have several more cuttings looking good.
I will recheck again in a couple weeks.
I potted up the rooted ones and left them in the misting box.
So exciting!

Update on propagation box. Here are some recent pictures of my misting box. We are going to move it into my greenhouse. I need to dig out all the cuttings that are in there to see what all have rooted. Am hoping for the best.
