This locust or grasshopper was pretty large. Large enough to make me stop the car and photograph it. Unfortunately, this is the only angle I photographed it from. The pic was taken in NW Missouri in October a few years ago.

Oh, we have those nasty things around here. Call 'em locusts, grasshoppers, whatever you want; over here, we call 'em plant destroyers. If I remember properly, the official name is a Great Plains Grasshopper?

You can't go wrong labeling it a grasshopper. I wouldn't attach a species if you can't really tell. There are probably several possible. (if the number of snake species is any hint Blinking )
Plant it and they will come.
