I have a couple. After researching, i put them on a very porous piece of pumice sitting in a bowl of water.

Never water with tap water, well water or spring water. Use rain water, distilled water, reverse osmosis water. Do not fertilize. Butterworts are surprising adaptable if their basic needs are met. Captured insects are not necessary for a healthy plant.

Your new plant may grow significantly different from what it looks like now, but if it looks happy with very buttery leaves, then you're fine. Leaves should be buttery, to the point that you don't want to touch them because your fingers will get all oily/slimy. Sometimes butterworts can get a purply tinge to the leaves, not necessarily bad, but that shows it is getting more light than it wants or needs. Butterworts have small, shallow root systems. It's not uncommon to accidentally pull them right out of the pot. If you grow them in a deep pot, you will need to set the pot in a deep bowl of water, so you might as well use a shallow pot. They like to sit a quarter inch up to an inch above the water line, but still with a drainage hole.

Thank you for response. Can you set photo of your setup?

It is potted in moss in clear glass container; I see roots barely sitting on top.

My "set up" is a south window shaded by a large Kentucky Coffee tree. (This tree species gives the lightest shade of practically any tree.)

Pinguicula ehlersiae - normal growth

One time accidentally, it got a light dose of fertilizer. Immediately I flushed it, but this is the result:

Here you can see a water stressed (lack thereof) plant. You can see how forgiving they can be, as it still can bloom (but doesn't catch bugs)!

Certainly not claiming to be an expert here. I only have one species. I am sure the people at the Carnivorous plant forum are better versed.

Here are a couple videos for you. The first is growing Pings on rocks:

The second is growing Pings in pots. The soil 'recipe' is at about minute 6:36 (That's also where the important part starts).

Both work. Here is one of mine on a rock in a saucer of water:

This one volunteered in another potted plant, I don't know where it came from but is planted in a very gravely mix and is overhead watered every day. Its unlike my others (purple and white striped flowers) and now there are two plants.
