This photo was taken in NW Missouri in September a couple of years ago. Is it a grasshopper or katydid. I'm leaning toward katydid, mostly because of the ridiculously long antennae. And which specific one, if than can be determined.
After looking through them all, most crickets are downright ugly! I've only ever seen the common Field Cricket that's all black, and hope I never see the others.

I went thru that list too, and nothing seemed to match it. The photo was taken out in the field, so no worrying about it damaging anything in my yard.
The closest match I've been able to find so far is the Nebraska Conehead. I've seen a lot of images with that slight messed up bump at the start of the wings, it could just be a different stage in their growth where that bump is more prominent.
