I got this from Northern Lights in May of 2022. It bloomed June 21 -July 07 with 9 blooms. It ended the season with one fan, the way it began it, except the fan was somewhat rusty from an epidemic.

In 2023, it started the season with 2 fans and bloomed July 17-31 with 6 blooms. Once again, it didn't grow new fans over the summer and ended with two fans.

It's a beautiful flower but seems to be having trouble establishing. It could be too close to the Pink Star Magnolia and might be fighting with the roots of that tree. I might try moving it this summer to a more favorable location. As a Durakian plant, it should do well here, it was hybridized 20 minutes away. It might just be slow to get going, I'll see what it does this coming season.

I was smitten by the unique look of Green Icon'se flower and planted it in the garden behind my retirement home. The following spring it produced a few nice flowers, but not in abundance. Less than a year later, a landscape renovation involving that garden necessitated removal of all plants from that garden, so I passed that plant along to someone who lives in another state.

I got Green Icon from NLD at the same time Zoia did. It bloomed the first spring, but not in abundance. It's stronger this year. It has a lot going for it:
OMG- it's REALLY green!
It has ridiculous substance. Plastic!
It has a long opening period- almost nocturnal. Don't deadhead until you're sure they are spent, or you may miss some gorgeous waxen blooms in the evening.
It's blooms are massive!
All in all, a unique and arresting cultivar.

This picture was taken at nearly 9 pm and the petals were still rock-solid substantial:

Hembrain,
I found your review of 'Green Icon' to be as interesting and unique as the cultivar. Very nicely done!

2024 update

Green Icon lost a fan over the winter to start the season with 1 fan. It bloomed from July 8-30 with 9 blooms, which is a little better than last year, despite being down a fan.

It's so pretty, I just wish the plant under the flower was sturdier. It needs to get going or it will melt away.
