By a really odd coincidence I happened to see that just the other day when I was looking at Illinois moths. Pretty sure it's an eight-spotted forester moth, which is also found in TX, more common in spring.

Edit: Anne was quicker! But it's a very pretty moth, it's one of the reasons I remembered seeing it at the site.

And here's what the caterpillar looks like, taken from Insects in the City.

No, haven't spotted any cats...need to see what they feast on - it IS a moth after all. Ok, peppervines, got too many of those, grapevines and Virginia creepers. I have seen quite a few of these moths recently. Thanx guys
