I have had mine for two years and mine actually shows a lot more green than the photos might suggest. It is very hardy here and has done especially well. It has also increased nicely from the small clump that Margo originally sent. I seem to think that the scapes are somewhat thin and it can lean a bit if the flowers are wet or more than one are open at the same time. Last year I had some trouble getting pods to set and will try again this year.

Edited to add that I do indeed have pods on it in 24!
Edited again to say that the pods all aborted....

I have had this one since June 2021 from Pat Ball. Since this is a June bloomer here, it may be too hot to set seeds although I only tried once last year. May need to use previous day's or otherwise saved pollen and pollenate early in the day. I have not yet used the pollen

Otherwise, the plant has done ok here in the limited time I have had it. It gets cold enough for most "dormants" to do well. The danger is getting them to survive in the summer heat

I do love the look of this plant, the colors and the curling

I received MSM from Greywood Farm in May 2021. No bloom the first year, it ended October with 2 fans.
In 2022, MSM bloomed from July 6- August 9 with 23 blooms counted
By October, it had a slight case of rust but was up to four fans.
In 2023, MSM started out the season with five fans in April and bloomed from July 10-31. I only counted 10 blooms but there were probably more as I was away a lot. By October, there were eight fans.
This April, MSM is starting with seven fans. I'm expecting a good season of bloom this year.

I really like this large, distinctive flower. It is an unusual, muted color but somehow very showy. I haven't had trouble with leaning scapes but my plant is in a very sunny location. There's something about it that makes me smileā€¦MSM has that "it" factor. It's just special in a way that photos don't capture.

I have had this 3-4 years, it is a good grower, super tall 50" in my garden. It is a leaner here, but it is because of the large flower size. Pollen is good here, but no pods here and I pollinate every flower. I would recommend this plant, it is quiet unique!

Monocacy Summer Mist has been here for some years and though it's not a big bloom machine, it is very welcome because its rather unusual look, kind of "outside the box". As with many of the DLS grown here, it would probably do much better in a different spot, but space is becoming limited and right now it must stay where it is. Too early to bloom at this time, but should start blooms in a week or two, weather depending. Worth waiting for in my opinion. Smiling

I have owned MSM for 4 years now. I currently have 6 very healthy fans.
It has bloomed right around July 15 the past two years. I do need to use plant supports for the scapes, but that could also be due to the location and competition for sunlight.
I think there were 2 scapes last year (didn't keep great records last year, was overwhelmed with my master's degree and daughter's wedding planning).

2024 update

MSM lost a fan over the winter to start with 7 and bloomed from July 5 to August 2 with at least 42 flowers. I knew this would be a good year!
