Weather warming up, rainy season over -- oh, no! Daily watering's back on the schedule. Container plants watered in the morning are drooping by late afternoon. Luckily, our nights are always cool, reviving them in time for their morning drink.

June is National Pollinator Month. The thumbnail for June is 'Bees Knees,' one of Zary's colorful miniature roses.

I'm constantly surrounded by bumblebees as I walk and work my way through the garden. They're not the least bit bothered by me (nor me by them), even when I'm cutting back the nepeta that they're visiting.

Thanks Porkpal. Here's another corner of the garden, with Bouquet Parfait (upper center), Lavender Lassie (upper right), Ballerina (lower right), and Betty Boop on either side of the statue (I don't know what type of roses she's holding). Smiling

Went to the local park to check their roses. Roses are between flashes, but highlight of the visit was Tesla. nodding

Happy June all! Enjoying all the beauties already posted.
Mike, everything is so lovely and elegant. No long shots for me until I get a little more under control. I'm more of a jumbled cottage garden mixed-with-weeds look. 😉

Took some early evening shots, this is the huge Bouquet Parfait growing up into the pineapple guava. Gotta get the old blooms cleared out, I do that with a blast from the hose. 😜

Distant Drums already past the prettiest stage but love her dark buds. I have a branch of the golden locust tree hanging too low, shading my huge Caramella rose, it will be removed soon. That gold does make a pretty backdrop though!

And that tree shade doesn't affect the bloom on Caramella, it's always loaded and just so photogenic. It's huge too, maybe 7-8 ft tall and wide.

Lady Emma Hamilton

Brothers Grimm is at least 6 ft tall and wide, it's such a bright orange red but with lots of deep pink as it fades.

O.K. today is June 6th. Well that is not too bad. It only took me six days to remember to check for a new month of Photos and Chat posts. I think I have some sort of mental block or something. Wish it would automatically bump into a new month. When I don't see any posts show up I start thinking what no one have any blooming roses but then I eventually realize it is a new month. Anyway, beautiful roses everyone. Looks like a good year.

Do you rose growers deadhead all the time? I only have a few bushes and try to remove dead flowers so energy can go into producing more buds. Should I be doing this?

I do, for the same reason you do and because I love having roses in the house. From everything I've read I think you should do it. Thumbs up

Zuzu, I love the name of that rose and the bicolor petals. Where are you located? We have lots and lots of rain here in NJ. I wish I could send you as much as you need.

Elena, I love your photo of Loves Me, Loves Me Not Meilland rose according to Helpmefind website it has a strong, fruit fragrance. Would you agree? Is that Tesla actually greenish or is it just reflecting the surroundings?

Calif Sue, your garden looks great and full of healthy life. I like the glimpse of your arbor in the distance. I adore arbors. They make me feel like I am entering a special place. Your Lady Emma Hamilton looks gorgeous. Is it as fragrant as I've read so much about?

Wow Mike I thought for sure your photos were from a public park or something. Like Porkpal said, a paradise! The inclusion of natural wood and stone are nice too. How long have you been gardening there? Can you please tell me what the green backdrop is behind the statue? It creates a wonderful sense of enclosure and privacy. In NY do you spray your roses with anything?

Little Annie, I deadhead mine whenever I can. Some might not need it but I can't recall which do or don't so I just do them all while I'm at it. I do it while I'm strolling the garden, looking at the roses. Sometimes I forget to enjoy the garden instead of always finding some kind of work that needs to be done.

Here's an arbor from my little garden. It's supposed to be for vegetables but the roses are taking over lol. The rose on the right ride of the arbor is Collette. It's taken her 3+ long years here in NJ to get that size from a puny own root plant from Heirloom Roses but I'm very happy with it now. Surprisingly it has quite a nice fragrance, this year anyway.

The reason you deadhead is that you are interupting the rose's normal plant cycle. Plants have a mandate to continue the species. The normal cycle is for the rose to bloom, attract pollenators and then set seed ... produce hips with seeds inside.

When you deadhead, the plant doesn't have the opportunity to set seed and is stimulated to put out new blooms to start the cycle over. So, if you want your roses to re-bloom, yes it is necessary to deadhead.

Smiles,
Lyn
