Yesterday I was out in one of my fields and discovered a huge number of cactus growing there! They seem to be opuntia (aka bunny ears). I hadn't realized they would grow wild here. My question is that field is going to be bush hogged. Will they grow back or should I rescue what I want to keep?

Don't mow! You will have cactus coming out your ears, as all the chopped off pads will root.

Thanks Red! That's probably why there are about 1000 right now! I will ask the guy to skirt that area and explain about the cactus. Anyone want some? Hilarious!

omigosh, watch out for the glochids on those bunny ears, you'll be picking them out of your hands for months. The look so soft and fuzzy....

Yeah I've tangled with cactus before but they were in pots. The spines on these aren't soft though Sheryl. They're nasty looking and about 2" long.

If I vanish suddenly from the net it will most likely be computer woes. My computer is acting up on me today. I think it doesn't like the heat. Just want people to know that most likely it isn't something wrong with me if I'm not around.

Thanks for the heads up. It can be worrisome when people disappear, knowing that they have health problems compounds it.

Big Grin Well, there's no missing those spines, huh? Yipe!

With computers you never know. I just turned this thing on for today and it's running normally. Yesterday I defragged it and cleaned it up some. I also vacumned the inside and removed the cover. I wondered if it wasn't getting enough air with all this hot weather.

I have AVG on my system and it says no virus. Besides I don't take my computer to risky places and don't open emails if AVG says they're at risk.

Ever since I left the case open it's been running better. I found it had reset the clock back to 2007 (not a bad year for me) so I had to fix that but otherwise it was okay.

I am super excited to start a prickly pear in my new place in TN. I have small prickly pear in my MI garden, but the ones I see in TN are huge! These are the same, yes?
Thumb of 2014-05-16/GypsyLady/282e3b this is my MI prickly pear last summer at two years old, started with two small paddles.
