Just got back from the doctors. My blood sugar just refuses to go down. In fact, it's creeping higher. So, we're going to add a 3rd med. Fingers crossed.

On the bright side, I've lost 17 pounds since April. And that's on their scale! Happy happy Joy Joy ! Hurray!

Hurray!

Sadly, what you lost, I appear to have found. Thumbs down But all my recent blood tests have been good, although it'll be another couple weeks before I get the results from the tumor marker tests (annual thing at oncologist's). That's one where no news is good news. If the results were "concerning," I'd get calls. Hard to believe it's been nearly 14 years since my last radiation treatment, with no sign of recurrence. I only have to look across the room at Joyanna to feel really blessed!

Hope everybody stays well over the holidays. Remember, pneumonia is rampant this year, so if a cough hangs on beyond 10 days, or if you start feeling better and then feel worse again, go right to the doctor so you can get antibiotics.

I wish I had been wearing a mask at work. I am really not in folks faces for extended periods. But the library is a soup of many visitors. I seem to be starting a head cold and if I wore my mask I could at least say I tried. Bummed. I am as vacc'ed as I can be. So it should be minor. I'm looking for the sinus rinse, we have it here somewhere, it might help. And just maybe my sinuses are just irritated from vacuuming and emptying the dust cup and filter, could have blown in my face a bit.
Plant it and they will come.

Fingers crossed that it's something you can throw off and not any form of "the crud."

With Jim being mostly retired now and fully retiring in a few months, he's been scrambling trying to figure out the best health insurance choices for us. We're going with UHC, will see how it works out for us. It seemed to be a better choice, cost-wise, than continuing our company insurance (our of our own pocket). If (maybe when) the Affordable Care Act is rescinded or changed, we'll re-evaluate.

Jill,
Do you guys belong to AARP? If you have Medicare Part A, you can pick up Parts B and D through their AARP/UHC option. That's what I did. The UHC part is running me $50. a month (in addition to the Part B premium).

Part B is for Dr visits and Part D takes care of prescriptions. It's more involved than that, but those are the big highlights. (Part A is major medical.)

Rick, that's an option we'll explore down the road. We're not quite eligible for medicare. When we are, we'll be making changes. We did recently juggle MIL's coverage.

Aargh, Sally, that's a version of "the crud" you really didn't need. Hope you get an easy recovery. Booster should help with that, I think. I know Mark will take good care of you.

I've skipped Covid shots the past couple years because every vaccine for it has knocked me down for a week or two. There's far less risk of getting a severe life & lung threatening case these days, so I opted to roll the dice and not get the guaranteed bad response to the shot. I did get my flu vaccine, though. Probably should have had the pneumonia shot, too, especially given the high incidence of pneumonia this year.

Interesting to me was reading that the incubation from exposure to symptoms seems have crept shorter, now thinking it is about 3 days. The thought it, as most folks have some prior exposure, their immune systems are reacting more quickly. So I probably got it Thursday at work. I really wasn't in anyone face that much- but there were two women who needed help printing wireless from the phone- and that means we're both looking at their phone, and that is a close encounter. Oh well. And one coworker also got Covid, it might have been from her.
Mark thinks he's protected by having had an actual case in September. I hope so. I hate to think if I had not gotten the vaccine and felt worse.
Slept well, head is no longer on fire. Happy to lay about and let someone else shovel.
Plant it and they will come.

Glad you're feeling less awful, Sally. Rest up!

To all who are tackling shoveling jobs -- remember that your body isn't used to this! Do it in stages, not all at once, and stretch before & after. Easiest stretch for your back is to lie flat on your back and try to make your bellybutton go to the floor (press your lower back against the floor), using your "core" muscles. Hold for a few seconds, relax, repeat.

Jim does not take the above advice. He charges out there and gets it all done ASAP, despite the fact that there's nowhere we need to go. If it were going to warm up later in the week, I'd just wait for it to melt!

Jill,
You should also consider getting the RSV vaccine. The first thing I did on my last day of work was head to the Sam's pharmacy and get updated on Tdap, Pneumonia and RSV.

Did you know . . .

Maryland has a central vaccine registry that all health care providers are required to report to? It's called MyIR Mobile and can be found at https://app.myirmobile.com/aut... .

The way it works is that you register and give the system a few days to collect your data. Once collected, you vcan go up and get a complete list of any immunization received in Maryland. There is also the ability to get an official State of Maryland document showing your COVID-19 immunization history, including a QR code with the info. (Much better than carrying that little card that everyone lost after the first coupe of months.)

I keep both the QR code and the PDF on my phone.

For parents with school age children, you can add them to your profile. This is especially valuable if you are planning a move. You be able to get an official immunization record to include in your childs transfer packet.

We used this daily at my last practice to confirm vaccine needs for immigration applicants (Depending on age, they can need anywhere from 0 to 6 vaccines that are required.) and people that are sent in by an employer for physicals.

Yes, there is. However, only pharmacists and physicians can access it. The state registries post to the national.

MyIR can also connect to several state registries.
