Hi all, 3 months ago if you said pothos I'd think you were talking about potholes... Hilarious!

Now I've got my first one, a "Pearls and Jade".
Thumb of 2024-07-07/bhiejr/35f5b1
Where it's at now it will get a bit of direct sunlight a few minutes of the day. For the most part the shadow of the wall should work..

I've got a 7" plastic pot to put it in and a choice of either/or both of these foods. The organic one is pellets for the dirt. Thoughts?

I'll be putting it here so Pippi can still get to her window.
Thumb of 2024-07-07/bhiejr/f4ed01

Any input appreciated! Never had an indoor plant that wasn't plastic! Confused

Tia,
Barrie

Congrats! A great plant to be a first. Anywhere near those windows would be great. I think you'll find that soon, you are thinking about what to do with the vines, instead of wondering if it needs fertilizer. LOL! Pothos can live happily for decades without any.

The store soil that is already around the roots could have some time-release fert in it, and any new soil you might use if you change the pot, so consider those things before you start adding more. As you probably already know, too much fert can damage plants.

Thank you Tiffany! I'll leave the additions out and mount it this week.

Already know how I hope it can go.Thumb of 2024-07-07/bhiejr/c00840

I've read they've got aerial roots so they can hold onto stuff to climb. I've got 3/8" all natural jute to let it run along.

Happy to reply! I'll be curious to hear if the roots will attach to that. I've seen them stick to various wall material, sides of pots, bamboo table, probably forgetting a few things. They can attach to the wall, so keep an eye out for that. It will pull off the paint when the root is pulled loose afterward, and/or leave a "skin" attached to the wall.

Good to know! I should think it will attach to the rope. It's all natural plant fiber.

I'd use the miracle grow, when you're ready.
I have read that organic fertilizers (may?) need soil microbes to fully convert to useable components. The table looks like a great site!
Plant it and they will come.

Thank you Sally. That makes sense on the microbes. There's already tiny things with wings around so I'm sure there'll be microbes!

Living in the woods with the doors cracked for Pippi there's always something flying in here. Sighing!

Hey Tiffany!, I can't find my post with the original pics but it's going well thank you. I believe it's an inch wider and taller than when I brought it home. It's finally getting over the Home Depot grow environment.

Tiffany, that little shelf is a $0.50 salad plate from the Salvation Army! It's textured on the bottom so the JB Weld has a really *good* grip. Thumbs up

Now I wish I'd never brought this home! I didn't know it was loaded with gnats and now they're *everywhere*. There aren't any in the pot anymore that was easy enough but the kitchen is Grumbling . Clorox in the drains at night, they're covered when not in use, and the sinks get a squirt of Lysol whenever I go by. I've quit using the water dispenser on the frig and NO way can you have an uncovered drink. Crap, you plate the food and by the time you get a fork there's things with wings all over it.

I'm done with indoor plants. Thumbs down

I use window fly traps to catch those errant gnats. They naturally go towards the light, so they are caught by the sticky traps.

I would also suggest add some more pumice to your media so it drains/dries out faster and lessen moisture retention.

I have hundreds of potted plants inside when it's cold outside & no gnats. When I stopped using "potting soil" with peat in it, the gnats were no more. Agreed, it's an unacceptable issue.
