Thread OP

So after purchasing thousands of bulbs from them since 2021, I will not be buying from this Tulip World or Holland bulb farms their parent company again. I second the other post that less than 4 star reviews are not published - which is terrible when trying to make informed decisions.

Here's the 1 star review they will probably never publish:

Title: Very disappointing

I have ordered thousands of bulbs from this company over years. This year was very disappointing. Of these many never grew at all, and a cluster of about 6 of these grew but only one bloomed of the whole set.

Company refuses any warranty on a technicality that expired in June. But we are at high elevation so tulips are often blooming in July. Probably will not buy from them again which is too bad because prior years were great success.

Overall Rating: 1

Photo below is an example. I kept waiting and waiting hoping the ones around it would put up the blooms and they never did.

1 out of about 6 is a dismal rate of bloom so something was very wrong with these bulbs. No credit from the company. Other bulbs never sprouted at all. I think we got far less than half actual blooms.

But if this is how they treat good customers, I'll look for bulbs elsewhere.

We also had a peony root not sprout. They did honor the warranty on that one but though I reported it had no eyes when received, they made me wait until following spring when as I knew would happen it never sprouted. So I had to contact twice to get my $9 credit.

I hope you don't think NGA has any relationship to either of those companies.

To be fair, you've bought thousands of bulbs from them and have had good results. This one year was a problem. While it may have been the bulbs, it could also have easily been something else out of their control. Weather/climate, soil, water, etc.

Warranties are always difficult to manage. They have a warranty good until X date. You come back to them at X+ date wanting your money back defeating the purpose of a set warranty. Perhaps in the future, knowing that your plants may bloom later than in other areas, you should contact the company within the warranty period and let them know that: 1) the plants haven't yet bloomed as per the warranty; 2) that it may be that they may yet bloom later in the season; 3) and ask if they would extend the warrany period another month so that they are not refunding for plants that end up blooming later and you are not eating the costs if they don't bloom at all. Otherwise, it seems the best thing to do is to ask for the refund within the warranty time knowing that they may still bloom later.

Personally, if every year prior I have been happy with the bulbs, I wouldn't be inclined to sever relations completely over one bad year. Instead, I'd probably try again next year with a reduced number of bulbs and buy additional bulbs from another company. That way, I could see if it was just a fluke this year AND see if another company provides quality bulbs without putting all my bulbs in one basket.

There are many sites that don't allow negative things (facts) to be posted, I won't name them, Whistling I get around that by posting photos, a photo is worth a thousand words, and anyone with brains in their head can see the problems in a photo, especially if you stage it to that effect. If a company sends me something dried out and scrawny, people will know by looking at my photo, I usually add a common item to reference size. Not an honest way at all to not allow negative reviews. I'd be very upset if I was a loyal customer for years and had that happen and them brush me off. I hear ColorBlends sells large amount of bulbs at a bulk price and people like them. I have no idea what their guarantee is though for their bulbs. The best places to buy peonies are from Adelman's or Hollingsworth, I've bought from them several years and they not only sprout but they usually bloom the first year. With all that said, I can't grow tulips especially reliably, the critters here eat them. It's a waste of money for me!

I've had very good luck with bulk bulbs from Color Blends and Netherland Bulbs. Netherlands are always the largest bulbs of any I've ever purchased.
