Howdy all
What kind of fruit trees can be planted in such a location this time of the year? It is late in August and I am north of Ottawa. What do you suggest based on your own experience? I have done some online research and the usual candidates such as apple keep popping up. I am looking for more unusual and exotic options. It gets pretty cold here in winters but there is no shortage of rain. The soil is rich and since I became a hermit I have time on my hands.
Looking forward to your suggestions Crossing Fingers!

OK, since I am flooded with exotic suggestions let's forget exotic. Just suggest anything you may grow in such a climate and can be planted this time of the year. Thanks in advance.

I don't know about planting times, but I would think you could find varieties of crabapple, pear, quince, raspberries, grapes, and cherries (I've read the sour varieties are more cold hardy) would be good options.

You could also look at other berry options like chokeberry, serviceberry, etc.

Thanks, I am set now on pear, apple and quince. Might even experiment with grapes.

I've certainly had experience with the hermit life, but I wouldn't be happy in y'alls cold...

Seems like there's a raspberry with gorgeous flower...

And service berries seem desirable...

You're right about the apples, when I camped in Maine, lots of wild apples to eat...

Not sure that y'all can plant trees in the Autumn... frost heave pushes them out of the ground...
