By the way, I heard from the owner of the stable where I board my mare. She said the place is a mess, but all horses and humans are safe. Thumbs up

Wow Nan. I'm so glad the horses and their people are fine. Let us know when you get a catsitter report.

The tree blocking our road has been totally removed sometime overnight, as this morning the only sign of an event is my neighbor's car with a dented roof. It is kind of amazing how efficiently everything was whisked away under the cover of darkness.

103 already at 11:30 according to the weather channel. The winds are gusting to 30 mph which makes it feel like a blast furnace and is really drying things out. Sighing!

Nan, sorry to hear there is so much structural damage in your area. Yesterday was eventful, to say the least. We still have no phone service, and our power was out for 24 hours (75% of the county has no power). Storm was much worse here than anticipated as it didn't turn as expected but continued straight over us. Char, Boone is not far from us and there is widespread flooding there. Without power our rain gauge did not record totals, though a friend nearby had 18" in her gauge. We had lots of tree branches fall, luckily nothing hit the house or van. Blew the leaves off a lot of the trees so we have loads of leaf debris on the house, porches, etc. There is damage from falling trees and water all over West Jefferson, amazing what that amount of rushing water can do. We have huge deep ruts in the gravel path beside our garage that will have to be repaired before we can get our mower out of the shed. I have never seen so much water rushing downhill and we were concerned it would wash out the bridge. It did not but there are repairs I'll need to make to one side of the culvert where the rocks which help support bridge and lane are caving in.

Our daughter's basement flooded and she also has no power. She worked hard yesterday trying to mop up the water coming in and ended up in the ER last night with suspected angina. She's here today as she still has no power and shouldn't be alone - and isn't allowed to do anything strenuous. A crew of her neighbors and friends brought a generator and shop vac to her house today and have cleaned up most of her basement. What great friends! A neighbor is taking care of her cat.

DH has been out cleaning up limbs much of today; porch will have to wait until it dries out so I can vacuum up the debris and clean up the rugs and porch furniture.

Could have been much worse; we are dry, house is undamaged, and my refrigerator needed cleaning out anyway!

Feeling a bit weather-guilty now.
We have been on a trip to Montreal and had spectacular weather. Sorry to those affected by the crazy new normal of weather extremes.

A couple leaf-peeping pics from the car as we cut through Vermont and New Hampshire a short while back. Almost home.

Orion, glad you had a nice trip and thanks for the lovely Fall photos. Do love the Fall colors! We weren't going to have a good Fall leaf-peeping year anyway but the hurricane shredded a lot of the leaves and removed them from the trees!

The purple hat ladies are back, love it Dave!

The damage in your area sounds terrible Nan Group hug So glad the horses and humans were ok. Knowing your horse is fine and in good hands is one less thing for you to worry about.

Sorry to hear about your neighbors car Jill. I hope they can get that worked out with insurance and all quickly.

I'm so happy to hear your ok Donna. I remembered Boone from my places to retire web search of your area over the summer. I knew when I heard that NC mountain areas could see 10 - 20" that the flooding and damage would be devastating. When Irene hit Vt in 2011 we only had 7 +/-" and it nearly wiped Vt off the map. I agree, it's hard to imagine just how much damage running water can do until you see it. I'm so glad you and your family are safe and didn't have any major damages. Group hug

Nice images Orion! I was out and about today too and saw some pretty foliage in the higher elevation. Maybe the same you saw as I drove through NH up into Maine to speak at the Southern Maine Daylily Society meeting. Had a great time meeting the members and talking daylilies! There was fog this morning from home to midway on I89 to Concord then it was sunshine mixed with a few clouds the rest of the way. The car said the temp was 71 when I left Maine this afternoon and temps here at home were 48 & 72. Hoping for another nice day tomorrow.

Glad everyone here survived Helen without loss of life or limb. ( or pets, or houses or cars).

It's been beautiful weather here. After digging in my garden this morning, I went up to NH to play a wedding at a castle. A real castle. It's called Searles Castle and it was built in 1909 as a private residence. Now it's a wedding venue. I'll put some photos on the Porch Swing.

74/53, partly cloudy. There is no rain predicted until Wednesday.

Lantana. I saw this in India, growing wild by the side of the roads. I guess that's where it's from originally.
