Hello! I am working on a project at Newark Charter School about over and under watering houseplants. It would help a lot if you could fill out this survey. More information is provided in the intro, thank you for your time!

Hi & welcome to the site! There is no link to a survey in your post. You might get more responses if you just post the questions here and then manually add the responses at your end. I would answer that way, but would not click on a link because of security concerns. I never click on links to sites that I don't recognize. Probably a lot of others operating under that rule too.

I think there is a significant demand for some kind of system for automatically watering plants, whether in connection to a vacation or not. Of course it won't appeal to every plant owner but I believe it would be very successful if it worked well. No idea what a viable price point would be. I think it would be much more popular if one unit can service multiple plants.

With hundreds of potted plants in 6 rooms in my house and some in a shed, I would never be able to afford a system of watering automation, and really enjoy watering plants, so I'm not your target potential customer. But I wish you the best for this project. If you can figure out how to make it work, it will be very popular I'm sure. Others have tried and not yet gotten there.

Becomes a question of, how much can one afford to spend on a system versus what is replacement cost of plants, and what sentimental value? Also the time to set up and tweak a system.
In the end, I think 'precision watering' is really not important in plant care, sorry.
Plant it and they will come.

I think one clarification needed in your survey is the cost. Are the cost options per plant or total for a system that waters all plants?

Someone may be willing to pay $25 for a one plant solution to help protect a cherished plant, but unwilling to pay $100+ to water all their plants. Or someone may be willing to pay $50-100 to water all their potted plants but not one plant. So clarifying if that is the cost to water all or one plant would get you better results.

Another question that might be helpful is how often and for how long the respondent goes on vacation. Someone who travels frequently and/or for weeks at a time may be willing to spend more to have an automated system than someone who rarely travels.

Thank you for your reply! The solution is meant to refer to a possible solution which will ideally be for many plants, though our group has not begun brainstorming yet.
