I bought a Hilo Beauty rhizome a few years ago. It has grown a beautiful plant with partly purple leaf stems, but the leaves are solid green - no spots. Do you suspect (as I do) that it isn't a Hilo Beauty at all, but something else? Thank you!

Hi and Welcome! to the site!

That's definitely not Elephant Ears (Caladium praetermissum 'Hilo Beauty') but I'm not sure which Elephant Ear it might be.

One for comparison is Elephant Ear (Colocasia esculenta) but that's only a wild guess on my part. Here are a couple of photos from our database for comparison:

Hopefully someone more familiar with Elephant Ears will be along shortly to offer suggestions!

By the way, I moved this from the Ask a Question Forum over to the Plant ID Forum where it will get more views and one of our more knowledgeable members might recognize it.

True, except that X. violaceum is used specifically to designate the dark stemmed. glaucous leaved variety of X. sagittifolium known as 'Blue Tannia', 'Black Stem Malanga' etc as opposed to the standard green form that has green stems and plain green leaves. The leaf blade form is also slightly different between the two.
