Just saw this thread - we never get any T&T'rs, rural area, can't see our house from the road (actually, that makes me think we could make it into a cool spooky destination if we put our minds to it), but that doesn't stop us from buying candy "just in case." Whistling

I have to say, though, that I think the "good times are over for good" (as per a Merle Haggard song) -- when I was a kid growing up in town in Jackson, Michigan, we used to run wild on Halloween, trick and treating out to a couple of miles from home (on foot, none of this thing with parents driving kids here and there to find the best places). Ah, the good old days!

I agree. We went out with pillow cases and went out all over. And when our pillow cases were full, we dropped the candy off at home and went back out. And folks didn't turn off their lights at a set time - they waited until we stopped showing up.

But I don't blame parents nowadays. If something were to happen to a kid out trick or treating, the first thing the media, including social media, would do is condemn the parents for letting their kids go walking around instead driving them.

Yes, times have changed a lot. Some things for the better, others not so much.

I would even welcome an egg thrown at my house, just to know that childhood is alive and well! So I have a hangover from the 4 Snickers bars I ate last night, with many more to go. . .

Crying Your post made me tear up. I feel too many children don't get the childhood they deserve, any more. I'm sorry you didn't get any visitors.

My granddaughters live in a neighborhood where one street all decorate for Halloween and make it a big deal. So all the kids and parents go there and trick or treat together. They get enough candy to fill up their medium sized bags so everyone is happy and has lots of fun. Win win for everyone

I think it's great when folks join together like that to make it a fun time for everyone in their neighborhood.

I agree about kids getting childhoods they deserve. I see so many are denied so much for such silly reasons. I like to think I can give a little back - even if it's just one family of kids each year.
