Its Bermuda grass. Bermuda grass is a perennial that spreads by above ground stolons and below ground rhizomes. Crabgrass clumps and dies at the end of the season.
It grows rampant in the backyard. Have to have my yard guy come through with a shovel and pull it up a few times a year. I just can't pull enough fast enough to make a dent in it.
Fortunately it hasn't taken a real foothold in the front yard and I can just pull it as I see it.
I am surrounded by pasture and farm land. My property was once an almond orchard. I think the seed just blows in from one of the neighboring properties.

They sell that stuff as "lawn turf" here. It's not the worst grass weed here by far. This is relatively easy to pull up compared to a few others in my "lawn." And this type almost always tries to go over a border edge, vs. going under like some of the more sinister "grasses."
The golden rule: Do to others only that which you would have done to you.

Try to be more valuable than a bad example.
Last spring, we tried ornamec in the front yard along the sidewalk edge where it gets out of hand, along with some other weeds. It seemed to help but not any better than when we weedwacked.
