Can anyone identify this plant? I thought it was some sort of goat head, but it does not show up among the images of goat head on this site, and the thorned seed pod is differently shaped. Seed heads may have 2, 3, or 4 horns, plus some or many small, thin thorns on the stems and leaves. Before ripe, if picked or cut, the sap is a bright, almost fluorescent turmeric/bright ochre color. Please see the attached image of seed pods with stems & leaves. Many thanks to anyone who might be able to identify either its common/botanical name, or its hierarchical order of Kingdom, Division (or Phylum), Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species.

Janine's suggestion of prickly poppy looks promising. Are you able to post photos of the complete plant, including stems, leaves and growth habit?

As @mbdmail compared it to Goat's Head, I assumed something prostate.

Photos of the rest of the plant would be helpful.

Thank you to all who replied to my request! I do not have better images of the plant in its glory, or with the pods on it before I cut off a few to ask about it. However, if you look at the leaves, they're very, very thin, and shaped differently from the Prickly Poppy leaves. The leaves also have those thin spikes on them randomly in the middle of the leaves themselves, as well as on the edges. The spikes are thin like very stiff hairs/bristles. Hoping for more guesses. I won't see these again until next year, having taken as much as possible out of the ground in the past couple months to avoid more spreading. I hope to get to one of the top nursery owners this week with my photos for more help & will let all know in this forum, should I be able to get the answer! Best regards to all, MB

You really need to give us a few more clues... What was the size and growth habit of the plant? Texture, shape and size of the leaves?

Maybe a solanum?
