Last year I was given a raspberry plant; it has been in ground and got a few raspberries.
Well I neglected it and it grew limbs to over 7 ft… it is massive! No experience with this plant so need help. Don't know what type it is either. The raspberry started out red then it gets dark, like blackberry.

I am thinking of chopping it back now since I'm cleaning up for fall.

Can anyone help me? What should I do?

Dad had raspberry canes in California, I believe they did cut them back, but I do not know if old canes make fruit, or if it takes new canes to produce fruit, nor what a normal lifespan will be for productive canes.
