I'm going to tell you right now, all I can get a picture of is the bark because it is dark outside and the tree is in dormancy. I can't get a picture of the leaves because there are none. Is it's possible to identify a tree from the bark?

Anyway, I figured it was worth a shot. One thing I know for certain is that it's not a maple.

Here is an older picture of the leaves from 2023.

I hope this helps. If anybody can help me identify this tree, I will greatly appreciate it.

I'd guess a variety of ash, based on a couple of those dried leaves. Not conclusive at all.

Perhaps I should wait until I get leaf bud pictures, and pictures of actual leaves growing on the tree?

Probably. I'm no expert; others can probably ID with bark and leaf nodes on branches.

Pretty sure the leaves and bark are an ash. And yes, a close up of the twigs and buds, as well as the whole tree would help. if you can't get the whole tree, even how the branch work grows would be helpful to be positive.

I don't know what all grows in Idaho...
Down here, I'd think poplar.

I vote ash.
Plant it and they will come.

Although most of the fallen leaves are separated leaflets, there are a couple that are clearly compound leaves. There are no poplars with compound leaves. Additionally, the leaves in question have entire margins. All poplar leaves are toothed or serrated at varying degrees.

@ViburnumValley

I'm thinking ash as well. Watch for the emerald ash borer if so.
