I hope I am not stepping on toes by starting a new year's thread.

I wanted to post how we are enjoying our new Squirrel Buster Legacy feeder. Lots of birds - cardinal, bluebird, house finch- and no squirrel!
Plant it and they will come.

Oh sally, those are great feeders! I bought my first one when I lived in Florida in 2009. It worked great there.
When I moved to Michigan, I could not take every single thing with me BUT I squeezed in my squirrel buster. It continues on. It is going on year 16 so I certainly got my monies worth.

We have snow, the feeders are busy. Most numerous are house finches. I saw a goldfinch, either female, juvie, or winter drab, I don't know which.
Plant it and they will come.

2nd story window peanut wreath , with and without tit mouse. wren and little woodpecker use it too but the tit mouse is there the most and will chase others away.

So, we have some folks visiting and I'm not sure what they are. They're about double the size of a chipping sparrow, but they have black instead of brown on their heads and they have grey chests. Some kind of sparrow?

Check the blackbird group. Cowbird, Brewers Blackbird, Rusty Blackbird, etc.

If you can determine what the beak is like, slender and pointed like an Oriole or a warbler or heavier like a Cardinal. That might help.

Sounds like Dark-eyed Junco, which is a type of sparrow. They come in a variety of colors and patterns.

Cross-posted. That's a White-crowned Sparrow. The 'racing stripes' are diagnostic.

Lovey dubby I've never seen one before. They seem to like the millet. There's about three or four of them in the backyard.

I agree with white crowned sparrow. I get a few show up with the house sparrows. They are about the same size as the house sparrows. As CalPolygardener mentions the racing stripes on the head identify them easily from the other sparrows.

My Mom gets house sparrows. I've seen them as close as five minutes down the road. They don't seem to visit our yard for some reason. Not that I'm complaining, the cowbirds are enough of an issue. Sighing!

I put some suet out on the step for the wren. One of the cardinals just took off with it. D'Oh!
