this evergreen tree grows in a garden in south county Dublin, near the sea, in a microclimate somewhat milder than normal Irish east coast.
The leaves look very like Hoheria to me but I've never seen one this size. It's about 6 metres high, with a 30-40cm trunk diameter, and 15 or 20 years old. Readily sprouts from the trunk and base where branches have been removed, and the juvenile leaves are quite different from the mature ones - rounder and more deeply cut. Leaves seem a bit firmer and waxier than those of Hoherias I know.
Thanks for any help!

I believe it is Hoheria.
They can grow very large.
I am assuming your pics are recent.
As it is evergreen that eliminates all deciduous Hoheria.
I cannot be positive but Hoheria sexstlosa may be a match.
In link below it shows the juvenile leaves being completely different.

Thank You!
that would confirm my guess. I reckon it is one of the cultivars or crosses of H sextylosa - there seem to be quite a few species. I found an interesting little video about different hoherias here:

The photos were taken yesterday.
