Finally, the Lakeside hostas in my garden. You all know there are so many that the Hosta Library has a whole tab for them. I only have a few.
'Lakeside Cranberry Relish', Aug. 8
New in 2009, this one HAS grown more enthusiastically and I suspect it would like more sun and fewer tree roots. I dug it, cleaned out tree roots, enriched and replanted a couple of years ago; but it's still small.
'Lakeside Elfin Fire', July 16
This mini was new in 2007. After an ill-fated attempt to grow it as a border, I consolidated it into a mound, but in 2025, I plant to put it into a pot and see how it does.
'Lakeside Mom', June 30
New 2009. This is one of my favourite streaked hostas and for about a decade it was reliable streaked. Then it began to put out more and more solid green sections. So, this is now one I have to keep watch over to keep it streaked.
'Lakeside Paisley Print', June 20
New 2013, this has not been a fast grower for me.
'Lakeside Reflecting Glass', June 20
New 2012. Don't buy this one. (I managed to get it free in exchange for letting a nursery use some of my pictures). But it's very, very unstable, much of it going solid green each year, though I'm not sure you could call that solid green 'L Looking Glass'. At any rate, I did for awhile and then got rid of it. I had a little discussion with this one a few years ago and told it, it was on its own. No more dividing. It also goes downhill very quickly and early at the end of the season.
'Lakeside Shore Master', June 30
Another I've had for a long time - since 2007. I think it would grow faster if it weren't sited between my lilacs but it returns reliably.
'Lakeside Zinger', June 30 & July 8
I like this mini which I've had since 2006. It grows low to the ground and would make a good ground cover hosta. Occasionally I get sections that are nearly white ('L. Zing Zang') but I don't think they have enough green to grow well on their own.
