So much for the chuckles, how about some 'P' hostas, like 'Pacific Blue Edger' for example...

It sets seeds very readily but I haven't bothered with germination..

This is a variety that takes a while to show its variegation in the spring. Below is the same plant as above but shot 4 weeks later...

A dear friend gave me a 'Pearl Lake' a couple of years ago and it is so frightfully similar to a NOID I've had for quite a few years that I had tentatively ID'd as 'Popo' but I've come to the conclusion it is PL.

The flowers have a nice dark shade of purple to them.

Back in 2021 one of the plants had a near-white pod on it and it's generally believed that white pods can lead to variegated seedlings. I was excited. But not for long, before the pods had an opportunity to ripen the resident rodent population decided to help itself to a tasty morsel! I was choked needless to say and of course I haven't seen another white pod since...this is the aftermath....

Now, let's see some of your 'P's!
Cheers,

Well, I started to write something and got side-tracked. I've got a number of 'P' hostas, maybe enough to make two posts.

Here are about half -
'Pandora's Box', June 30
This particular plant dates from 2016 and seems to be doing well. I had an earlier one that eventually just faded away. One of the 4 sports from 'Baby Bunting'. I had these in a trough for years, but found a garden location for the family a few years ago.

'Paradise Island', July 25 & Aug 8
I acquired this in 2011. It did well in the garden and then it didn't and spent a couple of years in a pot. It's now back in the garden and I'm keeping watch to ensure it continues to do well.

'Patriot', June 30
I seem to have trouble with this one. I grew my first 'Patriot' for about 10 years before it mysteriously went downhill. I replaced it and eventually gave the original away (and it IS growing OK for my friend). The new one, from 2017, has NOT thrived for me and I don't really know why. In late 2022, it was put, pot and all, into the ground and did better in 2023 and 2024.

'Paul's Glory', Aug. 8
Another that has gone downhill lately, I think because of proximity to my oak tree which has grabbed the nutrients. I finally dug it in 2024, divided it, potted it and sunk it into my back garden and I'll decide what to do with it in spring.

'Peppermint Ice', June 20
And yet another that did poorly in 2024. It was a bad slug year and this one was decimated. I had intended to dig and pot it, but when I started to do so, it had pretty well vanished. I hope there's enough of it to return for 2025.

'Pixie Vamp', June 30
Finally, a 'P' hosta doing well. This perky mini can easily hold its own in the garden.

The rest of my 'P' hostas -

'Popo', June 30
A delightful mini. Its blue leaves are among the smallest of all my hostas. I've grown it in a 5" pot since 2011. It goes into a trough in summer and my veggie garden in winter.

'Praying Hands', July 14, July 25
I've had this since 2007, but it marked time in a couple of locations until I moved it into a lot of sun after seeing one elsewhere that was twice as large as mine at half the age. Now it has grown a lot.

'Punky', June 30, July 17
Acquired in a trade in 2005 with someone I met on the old Dave's Garden site. I quite like this one. The second picture is 2 days after a neighbour's tree landed in the garden. This one narrowly escaped, but you can see that a few hostas were smashed. However, the tree missed my house, missed the back fence and landed in the only part of our yard where I had primarily lawn and not hosta gardens.

'Pure Heart', June 30
The ONLY white, or light-centred member of the "Mouse-Ears" family that I've tried to grow that has not turned solid blue within a year or two. I've had it since 2014.

'Purple Heart', Aug. 27 & Sept 9
This was new in 2014 and has lovely red petioles and late season bloom on red scapes.
