Oh my, A friend talked me into going to the state's DL society sale. I came home with 10 new ones. OK, guess it's time to extend a bed or two! I should have known better, but this was their second day, and everything was half priced! I got Expensive Taste, Border Blessed, Sea Dragon, Justin Paul, Oom Chuckalucka, Forest Lake Ragamuffin, Ruffles and Ribbons, Chicagoland Revolution, and Mike Longo. They gave me a free one that is unregistered I found out, and it had a name on it Greystone Rags to Riches. I can't believe you just found that Tom! It is always on the weekend just prior to our county fair - and I usually manage to sneak by Madison prior to go up to Beaver dam for set up - but this year it was during county fair - I bet I would have been happier spending my money on daylilies instead of fair food!!!! But alas, I practically live at the fair grounds during fair week. I do wish I had signed up for some open show flower classes - because my daylilies are still blooming like crazy this year. Glad you had fun, and got some great daylilies ~Jan |

Jan, I wasn't going to go, as I had company from out of town, but they left to go home on Sunday morning, so when my friend called to tell me about all of the ones she bought on Saturday, she made the mistake of telling me that they were going to be half priced on Sunday. So we both went, and she ended up getting a bunch more as well. I can't believe the crowd they had there. Plants were going fast. My Daylily"s season is coming to an end fast now, but it seems that they had a much longer season this year then I ever remember. Yesterday I added a 10 foot addition to one bed to make room for the new ones, and have all but two planted. The two I have left are going to be put in the "small" addition to the bed closer to the house where I can see them more often. They are my favorite of the group. I need to enlarge my iris bed and daylily bed yet - hopefully Labor Day weekend (hope we get some rain soon to loosen things up) I know they have daylilies on sale for half price on Sunday - my co-worker is a member of the society. But because of fair - I never get to go on Sunday. I am usually at the fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday for set up in the barns - and Sunday is a longer day, so no adding 90 extra miles. Saturday is better for me. Some of my best performers - that were outstanding this year - have come from that sale. In fact, the first daylilies and iris I have ever purchased have come from the daylily & iris sales at Olbrich. Sadly, I didn't manage to go to either of the sales this year. ![]() You are correct, my daylily season has been outstanding this year - and long. It's been great.~Jan |

Thanks Mike for the nice picture of it. I'm sure I will like that one, and all the others as well. It's hard not to like them. I have a quite a few of the older day lilies, but thought it was time to up date some of mine. I hadn't had any of the more "toothie" types yet. Now if I could win the lottery, I'd have all kinds of new ones, and a gardener to take care of them! ![]() I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion. - Alexander the Great |

Now wait - half the fun of gardening, is digging in the dirt. Granted, by this time of year I am tired of digging in the dirt ![]() |

yeah, hire someone to do the dull stuff like clearing weedy grasses, building hardscaping, and dropping 18,000 pounds of dirt, THEN you get to do the fun stuff. Moderation in all things…except chocolate, coffee...and potato chips. |

Oh I wouldn't give up digging in the dirt, I'd have someone to hold the umbrella for shade, one to fan me, and one to keep the wine coming! And of course someone to clean up the mess of weeds and dried leaves. And as time passes someone to help me get up after I've been on my knees for a while.
