So far, nothing but dark dreary and wet days. Perhaps we can find spots of color here and there, or simply showcase the changing of the season with spent blooms. Here's the tail end of my hydrangeas, and crocosmia waiting to be cut back:![]() ![]() And a welcome splash of color against the gray sky from this dahlia: ![]() I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned. |

I hear ya Deb. I'll go walk the gardens in the morning see what I can fine. No Indian summer for us this year. ![]() Sempervivum for Sale |

Even though they look ratty, I'll leave the sunflowers for the birds; monkshood is always a welcome late bloom; and the peonies are turning a lovely color:![]() ![]() ![]() I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned. |

First frost at my house last night. Burrrr, I better get busy today and bring the last in for the winter. Sempervivum for Sale |

Second frost for me, but not a killing frost. I usually get that about Halloween, though, so expecting it soon. Hoping to get some leaves swooped up in the lawnmower today to drop on the beds, but it's been staying pretty damp until about mid-afternoon, so will have to work fast. I'm going to take The Weather Channel's 30-day stats with more skepticism. I saw a hint of frost in one spot this morning, yet TWC's observed low was still "42F". I'm sure micro-climate can make 10 degrees of difference across a whole ZIP code. WeatherUnderground says it got down to 38. It was just a skoshe below 30 on my outdoor thermometer this morning, logged daily at 8 am. I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned. |

I'm going to have to get an outdoor thermometer so I have a little "reality" to compare the websites to. Just because it ISN'T complicated doesn't mean I can't MAKE it complicated! Mine is set up outside the window next to my computer, so it is easy for me to remember to check and log daily temps. This window also looks out at my bird feeders and a chickadee will often perch on the thermometer to peer in at me (or perhaps just admire his own reflection, who knows). And we end October with more rain and grayness... Happy Halloween to everyone. We won't get any trick or treaters, and no parties to go to. Just another quiet night at home. I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned. |

I kind of like the spooky, gray darkness from all the fog - on Halloween, at least. Too bad it's in the AM, not the PM! Just because it ISN'T complicated doesn't mean I can't MAKE it complicated!
