Oh good. A new month and the birds are here all morning eating on the birdseeds. Lots of the usual sparrows and Juncos and Morning Doves. |

Ann, great pictures of the Cardinal! Those sparrows might be white crown or white throats? I bet Margaret will know. |

Nearly got a decent shot of the Buff-breasted Rails. The parents are feeding in the garden and are not too scared but gradually move off into the grass. They have young walking around with them. I have seen two black balls of fluff but they can really run. I thought had them on a sports stop sequence shot my camera will do. But I must not have pressed the button.![]() I just noticed you can see the bubs following at the bottom of the shot!!! Black fluff ball. Whooopppeee. |

Ann, I am pretty sure it is a juvenile White-crowned Sparrow, so Rita got it right. ![]() |

Cool Glen! I saw the bubs. Thanks Margaret & Rita. I keep trying to get clear photos of those sparrows. They don't mind if I'm there & I can get pretty close but Lord! don't dare point that camera at them! ![]() I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. Ann, I love the White-crowned sparrows, they have the sweetest song in the spring, check it out, and yes once they get used to you, you can get pretty close to them, I have been within a few feet of them, I have a couple of photos somewhere, can't find them right now, I need to organize my photos better! ![]() |

Glen, you have the most interesting birds. Lots of morning doves here today. Not that I can get any pics because they are hanging out in the backyard where I can't get any shots. |

We have tons & tons of the white crowned sparrow juveniles but I have yet to see an adult????? That's why I was having so much trouble ID'ing them I guess ~~ I was assuming they *were* the adult version of whatever they were. I will check out their songs Margaret. I'm still trying to learn the songs of the birds here that I am not used to. Cardinals I know, Jays I know, finches I know, Catbirds I know, hawks I know including all the different sounds each makes. It's been hard though to learn the new ones. They all get jumbled up in my brain. I think maybe I need to listen to one per day & then when I get that one down, move to the next species. Ann, that's a good idea to listen to a song each day, I should do that too. ![]() Found the photo, I was weeding in the 'Birds' garden in the corner, there were a dozen or more of the White-crowned sparrows at the various feeders and on the ground, this one flew into the tree right beside me and I managed to get a few good shots before it flew to the ground to join the others. ![]() ![]() |
