After checking my dahlias, which were double bagged, sitting on a throw rug, covered well with a thermometer on top that read 42 degrees, I found mostly a black mushy mass in each bag. They'll go to the landfill tomorrow. Tonight I placed the first order of this year but feel I will do more...as usual. First I'd like to know if a few of mine did survive so I have them under lights in the basement. So, who is ordering what and from whom? Loved this one, Tartan, at Rivers Dahlias, so that began the ordering. ![]() |

Yep, Glory of Heemstede x10 Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society Bishop of Canterbury X10 Bishop of Llandaff x10 AGM Bishop of Oxford by 10 Gallery Art Deco x10 AGM Gallery Nouveau x10 AGM These are only costing about 90 cents each tuber wholesale, and are for potting up for the Garden Society charity sale in June/July. by potting them up and growing them on we will receive about $3 or $4 for them in the sale. Of course they will be sold as strong plants with buds/flowers so I have stuck to ones that will sell easily. Instead of giving $50 you can give $200!, and these are just the tubers. There are a load of other plants growing on in the garden for free!, or which have grown from seed and they will be making their way out of here during the year. I have to buy some more tubers for myself ( and friends and committee members), from a specialist, and they will cost me about $5 each. I have all the catalogues and will be settling down with some Verdi, a coffee with my feet up, my imagination and a pen at the week-end. Looking forward to it. |

Sounds good to me, Peter! The joy of looking can't be measured when we're faced with a snowy winter. Here's another one from Rivers Dahlias that I ordered, Misty Changeling. Every flower is different so it should make a nice display. ![]() |

Arlene I was not going to order any this year and before I knew it, I had ordered over $100 worth of dahlias. I had lost so many last year, I was thinking that I should see how they do this year. That rationale didn't last very long. This is what I have ordered: my order from the dahlia barn: Michael C Kenora Challenger Ripples Mars Prince Valiant Harvest Moonlight Insipic and then my order from Swan Island: EMORY PAUL GREGORY STEPHEN MAKI NICK SR. Virginia - I have Tyler James. I inherited him from DH"s aunt. You won't be disappointed. Here is a picture of my TJ. Carolyn ![]() |

TJ is so nice. I love when dahlias have more than one color! I've placed many orders since most of mine turned to black mush. I think the cold weather was just too cold although the thermometer read 40 or above the whole time. I'll count the dahlias later - just ordered 3 more! Now I'm trying to limit the lilies but I'm having problems telling myself NO. I've had Michael C. and Ripples and loved both of them. |

I am looking forward to them, Arlene. Something new is always exciting. |

I love the multi-colored ones too, just like Zoey, Bristol Stripe, Hayley Jane, Bahama Mama and TJ. I think those are the only ones I have right now. ![]() ![]() ![]() Colorado Classic Is on my wish list. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Very pretty! I have several that are multi colored. I do love the solid ones too though. ![]() |

Colorado Classic is certainly lovely, as is Bodacious, but neither is generous with the amount of blooms: I want it all! |

Since I was in the mood to order, I ordered 21 lilies from the Lily Nook to add to the 50+ I already ordered from Bert (Touch of Nature). So it ended up being a good day! |

Hey...what is winter for anyway? You sound like me only I ordered daylilies. Glad you had a good day, I was doing taxes. :( Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Jack did that for the last month and now the job is done and all forms filed with IRS. I'm all ready for spring if the weather would just cooperate. |

I am usually done by now! Today was a wonderful day 51° and a nice breeze, I had to work but I enjoyed what I could from the inside of the car while I ate lunch. LOL. Tomorrow is a high of 30°, we call this Pneumonia weather. We have names for our weather, too, but I won't say what they are! Left the house around 1 PM to haunt the big box stores and two miles away I could count the snowflakes. By the time I got out of Home Depot it looked like white-out conditions. Less that a mile away, at Walmart the snow was done and the pavement barely damp. On to Lowe's where the sun was shining and, except for the temperature, I could have believed it was spring...no snow...less than 3 blocks from HD. Not a single dahlia tempted me but several bagged peonies now have a new home. |

That is good that you don't have to drive too far. We have a Walmart within walking distance, I can actually hear plants calling me. LOL. Ours is 19 miles away and a blessing that it's so far away or I'd be there much too often. |
