Good afternoon, I live in Zone 5B and I recently moved to a new house and I'm behind the curve on flowers and plants. Can I still plant flower bulbs this spring early? I plan on having a large garden as well and I havn't started my other plants either. How far behind am I. I do own two green houses and I can extend my growing season that way, I was wondering if I should grow those plants like peppers and tomatoes in the green houses so I can get a full harvest. I look forward to hearing back from you and I love your podcast! Keep up the great work and God bless! Devin LoveGreen |
Hi Devin, Have you seen our planting calendar? Here it is for your area: http://garden.org/apps/calenda... I'd say it's too late for spring flowing bulbs but you've got plenty of time for everything else. ![]() |

You can certainly plant the bulbs, but if these are spring bloomers, you won't have blooms this year. Starting your vegetables in the GH's is a smart move and is something I use one of my GH's for. It gives you that head-start when it is too cold to put them in the garden/pots. I have only put out my onion seedlings. I am waiting to put out my herbs, tomatoes, peppers, celery, and sweet potatoes. It looks like we will have one more good, solid freeze (27 F) and then that's it. I'll take lots of photos and share them all! I plan on having a large garden with lots of different and unique types of plants, I even bought seeds from Dave's kids! After hearing how awesome they are on the podcast I knew I had to try them! I can't wait to have my food forest in the backyard and share it all with you! I'm excited just thinking about it! I can't thank you all enough for your support and words of advice! God Bless! Devin LoveGreen |

Devin, your excitement is contagious. ![]() What are your thoughts about vegetables in your garden? A relatively small patch can grow an amazing amount of vegetables. That's where my raised garden is - in the back yard. drdawg (Ken Ramsey) - Tropical Plants & More http://www.tropicalplantsandmo... I don't have gray hair, I have wisdom-highlights. Thanks! I've never grown in a greenhouse but I have grown on a sun porch before. I'm definitely looking at doing some dense plantings and doing some companion plantings. I just purchased 6 new baby chicks so I'm excited to get them out in the garden when they get older and give me eggs and then they can clean my beds and fertilize my litter. I also have a rabbit who's manure is a great fertilizer and already in great pellet form. Devin LoveGreen |
