Time for a color change. Let's look at some Amoenas, they are of course, iris with a white standard, and falls of a different color. We can also add reverse amoenas as well, White falls, with standards of another color.

I have a stupid question. How do you pronounce the word 'amoena'. I have heard the middle consonants pronounced with a long o and a long e so I avoid saying it in public. I could look it up but (to borrow a page from Tom's book) I can't look it up when I am in public and I don't say the word when I am home alone.....no not even to the dog. lol

I don't have any...yet.

These two are my favorites. Clarence( not sure, maybe it's a luminata ?!) has nice ,crisp, lines. Good color, and....it reblooms! Wabash is...well, I'll bet there are more clumps of Wabash grown in this country than any other cultivar...you see it everywhere, it's hardy, and it's a beautiful flower......Arlyn

Bonnie -- to my knowledge -- amoena is pronounced uh-meen-a. That's the way I say it, anyhoo.............

You can tell it's been a great day, nobody was inside playing on the computers. lol.

I had to take my pup to the groomer's for nail-trimming. Then indulged in a nap. Then worked in the Iris bed along the fenceline, cleaned stalls, brought horses in and fed, and cooked supper.

It was quite chilly outside -- but so nice to work in the gardens, even so.

We're gonna get one nice day today -- then tonight serious storms roll in with guess what? RAIN!!!! OMG -- enough already!!!

So I'm gonna get two small Iris beds cleaned up and Preened, then spread some alfalfa pellets on the five beds ready for blooms.

LaScala is beautiful, but not an amoena, Can't wait till mine blooms. It should have at least 2 up to 4 stalks as it's the second year, and hasn't bloomed yet.

Tom -- does an amoena absolutely have to have either white standards or white falls? I thought they could be a light color?

Mary Ann, I think it's supposed to be white sandards and some other color falls. Sometimes you will see a bit of color at the base of the standards, but I don't think that matters.
