As most of you know, redoing the blogs feature has been on my TODO for a long time. I originally created the original blogging feature for Cubits. Back in mid 2011, I copied my blog feature from Cubits over to ATP and made some various small changes to make it work here at ATP, and believe it or not, that was the very last time I changed it! The format of the blogs control panel was ancient and quite incompatible with the way we do things here at ATP. The biggest difference is that we rely on bbcodes instead of HTML, so it's long been my desire to simplify the blog feature and make it act just like the Ideas and forums. So that's what I've done. ![]() The newly updated blog system now only supports bbcode for new entries. It's super easy now, exactly as easy as posting a thread or idea. You can also edit old entries, but be aware that if your old entry has extensive HTML, it will be very difficult to edit. Ideally, you'd just leave the old entries alone. They will always display properly as they are. If anyone has any trouble with the updated blogs system, please let me know. ![]() |

Dave, I'm unable to post to or manage my blog and all the images in my last entry are gone. The other entries seem to be fine. Can you tell if this is my own problem or is it related to your changes? |
If fixed the problem where the images were not showing, so that should all be well. Now, it looks like you are also reporting that you can't post or manage your blog? Is there an error you're getting? |

I guess I need to refresh or something because I'm still not seeing the photos. When I click on Blogs, then click on view and manage your own blog, it takes me to my blog page but when there, there is no option except the search field. No error, just no options at all. |

Never mind that last post. The options came up when I refreshed. I'll try something else to see if the pics are back. I'll let you know. |

Still no pictures are showing in the last post. Only the text is there with a lot of blank white between the 2 small areas of text. The post below it is fine. I've logged out, logged in, restarted the computer, refreshed pages, and I'm not sure what else to do. However I need to be away from the computer for awhile and will turn everything off while I'm gone. I'll try again later. Thank you. |
I had fixed it in the Permalink area but not the main homepage for the blog. I have updated that (just now) and it looks like all should be well. |

Thanks for modernizing the blog interface! I notice that some links I had no longer worked as links: more photos of "deep" inserts: http://www.greenhousemegastore... However, I "edited" that blog entry and re-saved it without changing much, and that seemed to repair the links back to working links. When you edited it, did you see the big red warning sign at the top that if you edit an old entry, you might lose all the formatting? |
RickCorey Apr 23, 2014 6:15 PM CST |
I didn't notice that red warning, but I remembered your warning in this thread and took the chance. Live dangerously! As far as I recall, I've only used BB codes like [ b ] in blogs. In this case, the links were broken until I went in and chose "Edit". After, they were fine. This was not a complaint or plea for help, just a comment that some links "came back to life" for me. (FF 28.0 and Windows XP Pro) But there was no "square bracket" BB code on those links, just "http colon etc". They didn't have the descriptive-text-with-URL-hidden format like my sig block, just naked old URLs. Just because it ISN'T complicated doesn't mean I can't MAKE it complicated! Interesting! Well, if you see it again, give me a link to it and let me look before you fix it by editing. ![]() |

OK, blog entry "Fluorescent Bulb Types Posted on Feb 1, 2013 8:27 PM" In the middle, a link to Wikipedia about Fluorescent_lamp#Color_temperature is black and not working. But a link at the very end, to "little greenhouse" IS working. NG link: --- It's debatable whether broad spectrum tubes do any better for seedlings at all. I believe that chlorophyll absorbs it all and turns it all into energy (except for the narrow green band that makes plants look green). But there may be seedling subtleties that I'm unaware of. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F... Tube Lifetime ==== However, the link at the very end DOES look like it works. ---- Narrow, bright T5 tubes are only 5/8 inch in diameter. http://www.littlegreenhouse.co... Ok, thanks for that. Since that's an HTML post, it is being interpreted as HTML. You didn't have it a clickable link originally, I think. Feel free to edit it. |

Is it possible to start a blog that would not include the comments function (just entries, not an interactive thread)? I've always wanted to try a blog or garden diary, but without the need to reply to or manage side discussions ... and I can't really tell if that is an option on the front end of the blog-wizard pages. Like the plant lists that can be set to different levels of viewing, it would be cool if personal blogs were to offer options regarding access and interactivity. Thanks! There is no such option on the blogs but it's something that I can consider adding next time I'm in there. |
