Jovibarba hirta f/ Sierra Nevada This was a gift at the recent clinic in Oregon and I need to add it to my plant list. It was sold to gg5 by SMG and is on their web site as a "roller" http://www.smgsucculents.com/j... Pretty rosettes with pointed red-tipped leaves. and just the general info on the Jovibarba type plants. I will continue to research in order to fill in the rest of the fields. It is a really pretty little plant. Marilyn Smith aka CDsSister Please add it --- I asked Greg and he told me to go ahead and add it, but I don't know what to enter in the fields. |
That's @valleylynn's expertise area so we'll let her handle it. ![]() |

@ValleyLynn is definitely the one who can help with this. "Rollers" is a common name and I think but (I'm not certain) that Jovibarba is a synonym for Sempivirvum? http://garden.org/plants/searc... ~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot! ~ |

I know she is out and about today so will wait for her reply and will hope to learn how to do it myself. I did try but it said I had entered something wrong soo.... here I am. Can't get past first page. Thanks again ![]() |
Really, Lynn needs to handle this. I see it has one of those unusual "f/" species names so I don't think any of us want to touch it. ![]() |

I'm not certain if this will work but you might try the following: Primary Common Name: Rollers Accepted Botanical Name: Sempervivum hirta Cultivar: Sierra Nevada If that doesn't work Lynn will definitely be able to figure it out. ~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot! ~ |

I can wait till she is available ....Not a problem. I had thought I would contact her directly but then went ahead and posted. |
It didn't accept it as Jovibarba hirta is now a synonym, it's been reclassified as Sempervivum globiferum subsp. hirtum Here is an entry so you can see what it looks like: Rollers (Sempervivum globiferum subsp. hirtum 'from Biele Karpaty') You can see that 'Rollers' is used for the primary Common name. Trade name is for trademarked names so wouldn't apply here. |

I'll try again ... Thanks Sue |

It took it with just the genus as Sempervivum globiferum subsp. hirtum and common name of Jovibarba hirta f/ Sierra Nevada But did not give me a chance to add any other data. Guess we will still wait and see what the wandering @valleylynn has to say. ![]() ![]() |
We'll let Lynn fix it. ![]() ![]() |

No wonder the semp peeps are all confused. But am thankful for the experts who will fix us right up. Thanks for the advice. I was thinking anything with an asterisk was a mandatory field and tried to fill it all in ![]() |
The asterisk just refers you to the note below "* An explanation of trade names and series names" |

Just got back home. This was sure a fun thread to read. ![]() Jovibarba hirta f/ Sierra Nevada would go in the the 'Also sold as:'. Common name is: Roller Botanical name is: Sempervivum globiferum subsp. hirtum Cultivar name: f/ Sierra Nevada This is not an actual cultivar, it is a species that differs from other globiferum subsp. hirtum. It is the only way we could figure out how to list them. We used to do it this way: Sempervivum globiferum subsp. hirtum f/Sierra Nevada. This way still makes more sense to me. ![]() Here it is all fixed. Can't wait to see your photos Marilyn. ![]() Thank you for all the help Sue, Lin and Dave. ![]() Had a wonderful time at Kevin Vaughns gathering of locals from the Iris Society. What a nice bunch of people. |
